temporary conclusion of night work

this is the last batch of stuff i shot at night during the previous 2 months. haven't been inspired to get out and shoot since. i have a feeling as soon as things start blooming, i'll be back out.

  1. emm I love the frozen ones, I can feel the cold. When things start to bloom, youll be going mad taking all kinds of shots, but for now everyhting is still dead, I think if you get a another snow you should shoot, these are very interesting to me because they give me that cold feeling.

  2. I must say the color in the first one and second one is kickin, i loveeee the tree and door way color relationship. The weird alien flowers is a nice perspective and the two swing photos are my favorites. It seems like you have this night photography down really well, i wish i could see these in print form. Do you only want to shoot in suburban areas?

  3. THESE are stunning. Those photos from the subway, I'm sorry to say, have nothing on these. I mean I understand that this is your body of work this is your baby but the subject, lighting, composition is wayyy stronger.

I could really see you putting together a book with these cold icy nightscapes. 5 and 11 are my favorites they are really capturing the spooky nature of the photos, the atmosphere that makes them spooky, and the colorrrrrrr mmmmm.

I want to see more of THESE.

  4. man,i really wish it would snow again as the light was simply amazing!!! unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) things are about ready to bloom. so, i guess i'm just going to have to roll with that and hope for snow next year...unless someone has a plane ticket to the east coast blizzard for me.

uffleman, thanks for the props. the second one down and alien flowers are going in an auction for school. have fingers crossed that someone else will love them enough to pay rediculous money for them. :)and actually, your comments about suburbia are great! i had been thinking about moving in to downtown/the city for the next batch...but have been stalling, i guess. i need to get on it! this group was really focusing on the interaction of plant life and the places where we live.

erin, couldn't agree more that these are stronger than the public transport work. in all fairness, this series relfects a year's worth of work in this vein. the people shots are something i've never realy tried. so, even though i plan to keep going with this series, i feel like i need to also continue to work on shooting people on the fly. just for the experience, i guess. get better at something that, admittedly, i'm not so great at. you're going to have to serve as my barometer for if/when i ever get good at the people shots! and its ok if i never do (i'm not going to be good at everything). just something i want to work on for now, without any real pressure or consquences.

  5. T, where do I begin. These were already wonderful from the beginning when we were struck with your ballsy nature to go out at night and take these long exposure images of homes, plants, and eerie objects. Now as we see more, the effect grows even stronger. A balance of fear, ease, oddity, and familiarity take over the cool toned images.

Personal favorites, though all are strong; 4, 6, 11, and 12. I guess it is because they exemplify theose qualities mentioned and have a very interesting vantage point. I enjoy these very much, mainly because they feel like a form of foreshaddowing; as though the viewer is seeing a hint to something (probably bad) that is on its way. Great work, send me the book (signed) in the mail :)

  6. Tricia I just want to say that I'm right with all the others in that these are...well, astonishing. My favorites are 1-8 excluding number 2, it seems to be missing something. They surely feel continued from your previous set of night shots I saw, but they are more evolved, and seemingly, deeper. An odd duality and aware presence of the two beings. Number 5, my particular favorite, the light alone seems to have such an alien like presence. Mystery embarks. Through all of the mysterious darkness and co-existence, if you will, there is a stillness, a peacefulness, and a subtle beauty.

About moving downtown/the city...I can't wait to see those.

P.S.-Put me on that signed book list. ;)

  7. Tricia,
I do not know if you want to hear from a mom that does not know art but the night photo's are amazing, wonderful to look at and I hope to see more. I could imagine this work in a book of photo essays.
