spring at night

ok, did a little editing on the tunnel photo. better? thanks for the feedback!

and the rest from this batch. i have some feelings about how these fit with the previous work, but am curious about your opinions, first. so, whenever you have the time, let me know what you think.

back in the dark

have started back to the night photos. so, the sky starts to get light around 4:30 am out here right now. not great for my morning photo shoots. but, i got this the other day.

i think this is my 3rd try to get it. have 3 rolls left to scan and a bunch to edit. assisting a night photography workshop tomorrow and sunday (yeah!) so hopefully, i'll be able to capture some more images this weekend, too.

might try to post a bunch in the next 2 weeks to get your feedback before my final crit. having some struggles with the feedback process in my class, so, am looking for other thoughts. you know.

temporary conclusion of night work

this is the last batch of stuff i shot at night during the previous 2 months. haven't been inspired to get out and shoot since. i have a feeling as soon as things start blooming, i'll be back out.

some things just aren't meant to be

today, i prepped photos for submission to a juried photo show at school. planned to submit 5 of the night series images. the two posted previously and these:

and then the last one fell over and the glass broke. cut my fingers real bad on the glass, but taped em up, found a hardware store nearby, and bought new glass. and then i broke it too, trying to untape the cardboard packaging. so, i think i'm just submitting the top two and the two previously posted images. who knows, what, if any will make it in. i like the idea of an even 5. and yet, not meant to happen, i think.

oh yeah, had to spend the evening sanding my table with a rubber glove taped to my hand to keep dust out of the wounds. is that what i means to suffer for one's art?

The sentinal

it wasn't until "arctic blast 2008" that i was able to take this photo. had passed the spot multiple times. even set up my camera/tripod. but, never enough light. thanks to our recordbreaking winter wonderland, there was enough reflection that i was able to photo in less than the hour or so previously required.

there is something about this tree that makes me immensely happy.

Silence creeps

Oops! The image below was a previous version. I edited out the light in the final print version, pictured in this post. Better? I think I liked the tension created in the former version, but the latest seems more balanced overall.

And thanks for all the feedback!

while no one was watching

this image is from the series (tentatively titled "while no one was watching") i've been working on since moving west. just turned in a batch of 15 for my final today. will post more over the course of the week.

thoughts?

will post my artist statement later this week. although, the text has already been turned if for class, i still welcome comments and constructive criticism. trying to learn how to do this thing properly (whatever that is!), i guess.
