Batch 2 of Drum Circle

Sorry they wouldn't all fit on one post and I am real excited about them...

Drum Circle after a month of shooting

This is from my final edit after shooting the Malcolm X Drum Circle for 4 weeks. I was shooting this for my photo editing class. I am going to continue going to the drum circle and shooting, it just offers a lot of moments, and I have found it to be a challenging subject to shoot because of all the people around and all of them moving fast around me.

as we proceed...

These are two images from the Kennedy memorial, which the subject is not about, but just figured I'd add the detail in. Let me know your thoughts.

Some Couch Surfing

Here are some images from my thesis thus far.  They are some of my favorite from my whole take but, I know that they are not showing what I want to show in their entirety.  I am still working on refining my idea but this is my work from over the summer, what I like to call research with my camera.

Malcolm X Park Drum Circle

I shot this image on Sunday at the Drum Circle near my house.  It has been going on for over 70 years and people come to play drums, sing, and dance.  I found that the chanting and drumming puts one into a trance like state, almost like meditation.  I want to start doing a little series here because their are so many moments happening.

Kickin' off the new school year!

Hey guys, just thought id share some images i made over the summer... lets get this thing rollin' again!

Love,
Katie

Psychic Flowerss

Sorry I've been so bad at updating, review boards are still kicking my ass I'm in my studio almost 24/7 (or thinking about it when I'm not) But here is an almost finished version of one of my fortune teller paintings. I'll hopefully get one more started before my board (different subject) and find a way to share my video work with you :)

I actually decided to crop this painting after taking these pictures for the blog.

Gerald Slota INTENSE 2 day workshop!

So today and yesterday have been really amazing. My professor invited Gerald Slota to do a two day workshop with my class. The two assignments had very strict deadlines that were only a couple of hours long, simulating the time frame of working with a magazine or an editorial job. The first assignment was deconstructing another classmates work and reworking it in your own style. We all picked randomly out of a hat what student we got, and then they picked what peice of artwork to give us. The second assignment was make 6 different self portraits that describe you and bring out your essence, no straight-forward imagery of yourself of course. Annddd here are the results! I will post the installation i made with these pictures tomorrow or tonight and the first project!
