as we proceed...

These are two images from the Kennedy memorial, which the subject is not about, but just figured I'd add the detail in. Let me know your thoughts.

  1. These images felt like they were taken at a memorial or funeral before I read what you wrote. I think the top one is working for me as a stronger image right now, more so then the bottom one.

The one on the bottom, I feel like as the viewer, I have to work too hard to see what the photograph is really about, for me the subject is the woman's head in the middle, the way the light is hitting her face, her expression. this to me, is all obscured by the people in the foreground, which do nothing for me because it's their backs, looking at this image makes me want to push them out of the way so I can get to her and see her better. this picture feels like it's almost and image, it wants to be but I feel like the moment was slightly off.

Now, the top image, this one is working for me, the subject in the foreground is drawing my eye into the frame, they are glancing right at me, the light is hitting their face perfectly, and what a great day to shoot, the sky was a giant soft box working with you. This photo has me questioning the scene... this person is following this group ahead of them, as if they are being herded somewhere. I want to know where they are going. I feel like it's a funeral because I see the church tower in the background, and I am asking my self who died? (because of the black)

    Beautifully done my Lady!

  2. Beautifully composed photographs gab, the top one is my favorite, you caught her glimpse at the perfect moment. There is a definate sense of loss in that photo and the way the light is hitting the umbrellas in gorgeous, this is one of those photos where you get the full sensory experience, the damp feeling the smell of rain and the sounds of the group that is standing there. The second photograph is really interesting to me, i actually like the backs turned to me and the way your eye has to search through to get to that woman's face, i like the focus as well. Although this one becomes more about this quirky looking woman then the subject matter. These are beautiful exposures and i love the light in them, i want to see more, and i love that you're shooting black and white.
