  1. layering, pictures within pictures, that fist photo, I love it. It says many things, interaction is happening within interaction. Maybe I'm just all about this concept right now because I'm having it drilled into my head but, it works for me girl. The One of the man on the bus feels very sly... next time follow him for a little bit, get off at the stop he gets off at. Is that creepy? I dont know? If I had more leeway with my work I would start creepin, make up your own story about what they might be doing as you following them, even if its for five minutes and all the shot are taken from the hip. Maybe I'm crazy, just looks like fun.

  2. These look quite wonderful chatie-bitch :) The only one that doesn't do it for me is the car, but the other three have something really great. Particularly love the bottom two though, they both capture the simplicity and personal feelings that your half frame work has made me feel. I don't know if I get shy from the bottom one, more so an awareness to the strange light and his expression. The window is captivating and I feel like a moth approaching the light, I cannot look away.I love the spontainiety of the work as well as its connectedness. Keep it up upp!

  3. Katie, these photos here, and the ones that you've posted in the past from your half-frame, have a certain feeling of intimacy...the way that you portray the subject and the way you frame and choose to include seems almost romanticized. Here the bottom two are my favorites. White bright light coming through a shade, framed with blackness, making the space mysterious and putting the shade and moment in an unknown space/being.

Below it the man on the bus, the scene is lit naturally but with soft and dream like light. The hand coming in at the top, holding on, and what seems to be what the man is looking at. It has a strong presence, the moment is odd, but seems to be important. Someting about it, I don't know...ha.

As for the top two, I like them, but the ones below them seem more evolved and clear. I do like the subtlety in the second one, I saw the shadow first, then the person standing there, how he blends in with the fence. But there is the question of the car, it does almost become a car ad, this silver, generic, doesn't get any more commercial than that automobile... but it's ironic against the small subtlety of the fence and the man, staring at you from behind it.

  4. Thanks guys, you all always give me the best feedback. Haha yeah i go back and forth with the silver car one, I love that that guy blends in with the background, I have my second critique tomorrow and i have been printing a few pictures bigger then others, and i feel like that picture needs to be bigger since the guy can be overlooked. But eh, we'll see. I've become more interested in hipshots like the one of the guy on the bus, and since this camera just has focus settings and you dont actually have to focus its a pretty perfect camera for it. Ill have more soon :). I have been feeling all over the place with this work, but i really dont mind, I am a little bit against a specific project right now. I'm trying to figure out what I like.

  5. I can't wait to see your show girlfriend. I really enjoy your ability to move freely through forms switching people, interior scenes, lil doggies seamlessly. Even through the changes of form and subject I can still see your katie hand.

as I was looking at your post I thought there is something about the first and last photo that if you merged those two feelings together it would be perfect. The first I feel the color is a little soft but in the last I feel its a little too crisp. I actually remember that guy you took the photo of.

Really, they are turning out quite lovely. The spontaneity is fantastic and the colors/mood/intimate size are so you.

  6. katie, you really have a way with light. its something you've been in tune with for as long as i remember looking at your images.

i'm way more in to the last two, perhaps because of your ability to capture the light, or maybe that's just what i'm in to. the first one, i'm not feeling as much. and the second, i lose the point. but then, those two might suffer from being on the computer screen and not seen in person.

oh and i'm totally in to erika's idea to follow someone and make up a story to go with it. except, then i want someone to follow you and document THAT! katie, creepin around; stalking people she doesn't know. love it!

i love that you're shooting all over the place right now. keep going with it! can't wait to see more. wish i could see them in person!
