  1. John,
This feels that some of your black and white work that you have now shot in color. I never thought of those images in color, but now that you have posted this, I like where you are going. The shadows and the highlights intrigue me. However, with that said, What does this image mean? Is it that nature is finding a way to creep into this manmade environment? Is this images purely about geometric shapes intertwining with organic mater? Is it about the absence of color fighting with the the blue rectangle? Maybe I'm wrong about the whole thing, maybe I've been sitting in on too many senior thesis critiques and I'm looking too deep into this photograph.

  2. I love how you always place your figures so perfectly into your photographs john, and i love it in color. Im really into light washed-out color, that light light pink is so beautiful. Check out Pieter Hugo his use of color is pretty awesome. You always have a really nice sense of space and sectioning off different patterns and textures. The man being so small is overwhelming and is a nice reminder of how small we all are. All of these shapes have trapped him right in the middle in his very own patch of light. I like this approach of having the figure really small, usually youre quite close to your subjects, maybe try stepping wayyy wayy back, and observing a large area. Are you still using the 4x5? maybe splurge and get some color 4x5 and use this approach... if you cant i have some chrome 4x5 that i got for free and if you visit me i will give you a little bit of it :-p i really like this direction. sorry that was a long ass rant but i just feel like we havent talked in foreverrrrrrr

  3. I love the lighting on the bright blue rectangle!! And your willingness to let so much fall into the shadows. I think the mood and find the small person in the big world thing is really working. Its an element that come up repeatedly in your photographs. You should really focus on enhancing the fleeting feelings of these. I like how much of the person you revealed this time, last photo it seemed like almost too little.

In you black and white work things were very solid and concrete, these are much softer because of the color but the light is much warmer the textures almost tangible. I could see those two elements converging in a nice contrasting way..

your work kind of reminds me of a little bit of futurism and..
