My Portfolio Review

I had my portfolio review today with photo legend..... Lucian Perkins.  I'm interning under him this spring and he has been giving me reviews periodically.  I learned that I really need to work on my action shots... I cant focus fast enough.  He suggested that I go to children's sports games and photograph them... they let out all their emotions on the field and they move fast.  I kinda wasn't up to the idea but, I think I might give it a shot... what do you guys think? I WISH I COULD JUST SHOOT PORTRAITS ALL THE TIME.  But, thus proposes a challenge that I need to take on... as lame as it sounds, I really think that it could help.

  1. niz, i think that's a great suggestion, as iritating and/or terrifying as it might sound. i've been shooting on my bus rides to and from school, in part for that reason. i'm kinda slow and intimidated by shooting like that. all the more reason to do it, i guess...move towards the thing you fear, not away.

ps if you're getting advice from a legend, take it. you're in an enviable position. congrats on the internship and the fantastic advice. and you better post pics of the random bebes getting all emotional on the field!

  3. It is a good suggestion. You will gain important skills. He has your best interest in mind. Nothing ventured……. You go girl. Post some of the results. Oh, and watch the parents at these games too. They may provide some interesting opportunities.

  5. I agree, i found myself in the same position and started doing more street shooting and on the go. If you can't get to games right now since it is winter maybe practice shooting on crowded streets? or maybe there are indoor events. Good luck girl :)

  6. You can do it boo boo :) I think the portraits are nice, but you know them. exploration can only lead to good and if it doesn't, you at least learned. I think it would be interesting to focus on everyone at these events/ go to different places. you live in a populated area, use it to your advantage.

can't wait to see where this takes you.

and i love that you used bebe, T. haha

  7. Yea I agree, even in these shots are not going to be your "masterpiece" they will reflect in the other areas of your shooting. The portraits do look great though, keep going with them too. Working on a lot of different things at once could really be valuable if you manage your time with them.
