This is a film I watched today in my Super 8 class, It was really beautiful and I thought all of you would enjoy it, if you havent already seen some of his work its a film by Stan Brakhage, who is now amazing in my book! enjoy :)

Quite hypnotising...and trippy. Do you have any information on how he created this piece? I do wish the quality was better, youtube doesn't to justice for things like these, pixely pixely. :)
ReplyDeleteYup, Stan Brakhage was actually a painter/ film maker, he painted with a certain kind of ink directly on to the film and would scratch directly onto the film and draw etc. unfortunately the ink he used gave him cancer, so he died a little while ago, it sucks that his art is what actually killed him. But anyway, another really cool film of his is called Dog Star Man, its a four part film with a prolouge and its silent so its definately lengthy, but its really cool.

ReplyDeletealso, you should look up Peter Kubelka. his work is unfortunately not on ubuweb, but on youtube look at "Schwechater." It was a beer advertisement back in the day and he ran out of film so it's only 3 mins worth of footage.
art as the culprit..i like that.
