A "sneek peek"

Ok, I have been off in the midwest shooting for seven days straight, from the time I woke up till the time I went to bed, the camera did not leave my sight.  Sometimes even coming with me to the bathroom (to keep out of reach from the children).  I have been slacking on posts, I'm currently sifting through and editing about 1500 images.... I have to get the number don to 5-7 by tomorrow and as of now I have knocked the number down to about 60.  Im not sure if this image is going to make the final cut but, I enjoy it.  I feel that its dynamic, it captures the moment and the energy of the setting.  This is a story I shot on my Sister.  Generation Y, the Economy, where do we lye?  I haven't settled on a Headline as of yet, I'm brian storming... maybe... Generation Y on one paycheck. ?

  2. its not the headline, I have class this evening, so I'll let everyone know how it goes. I had Lucian Perkins help me with my edit this morning he said I should be happy with my take. So, I'm quite excited.

  3. I like the idea and the fact that you shot SO many pictures... the ones that you choose will be much stronger because of the extreme editing. I think in the process of editing you should not only worry about photos that show economic struggle but have a sense of psychological angst.

This photo is hinting both showing the garage style get together that are common of middle class families contextualizes the image to the subject you are concerned with but the mood I'm not sure is fully there. There is something maybe too joyful about the young girl in the back laughing. The foreground is pretty powerful though, the way the baby is laying instantly reminded me of the pieta (Christ in his mothers lap after his crucifixion). The virgin is a symbol of her incorrupt purity but the dead Jesus shows the viewer an image of the future. This visual reference makes me think of the situation many young adults feel about raising a child in today's economic and environmental difficulties. I know this isn't "fine art" but it is an image and resonates as all images do by calling attention to its semiotics a deeper understanding can occur.

I want to see more since this one image made me think all of that, and you are saying its not even safe from the cut. Good luck and think about those things when editing.

  4. I enjoy where you are headed with this. It is a nice image, but I would definitely like to see the others. It seems like a really nice project to do, getting involved with your family in a different way. i also really enjoy the critique erin gave on the piece; art history is in everything, whether you want it to or not. I like hearing of your dedication :) keep it up and good luck.
and btw. yo niece's be lookin rull cute :)

  5. I will be posting more photos soon, I would like to find a way to post multimedia on here because thats what this project is going to be, stills with my audio interview. One thing that I didn't mention that I think is a vital theme running through my story is that they are a very happy family. Yes they are struggling to survive and "keep up with the Jones's" but that doesn't mean that they are unhappy. I want to get the point across with this story that some of the happiest people are the ones that are not making the most money. The idea of materialism is a huge part of this. I think the concept will come across once I have the chance to upload my finished version and the picture package will tell it all. Thanks for th comments I will keep them on my mind while putting together this final cut thing.
